After many years of successful partnership with Toyota, tire manufacturer Fulda from Germany gained with Volkswagen a strong partner for this year’s jubilee Fulda Challenge, an annual extreme sports event held in northern Canada with temperatures down to minus 40 degrees. From 10-17 January 2010 Volkswagen Tiguans with 170hp 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine and numerous off-road features brought ten teams from Germany, Austria and Canada 2000 miles from Whitehorse to the Arctic Circle.
Volkswagen provided twenty brand new Tiguan as competition and support vehicles for this unique winter adventure. Just after big brother Volkswagen Touareg in the Dakar Rally proved what he can do in 46 degrees heat in the Atacama Desert of Chile, now little Tiguan has also passed an extreme. The arctic temperatures and the extreme road conditions provided a perfect platform for the renowned German automobile manufacturer to demonstrate the reliability and performance of its products. Fulda equipped VW Tiguan with Fulda Tramp 4x4 Yukon tires.
The 2010 adventure staged events began on January 10 in Whitehorse before moving on to Carmacks, Dawson, the Dempster Highway, Eagle Plains and the Arctic Circle. The caravan traveled about 2000 kilometers on the icy roads of the Yukon Territory, whilst mixed double teams tested their skill, strength and endurance levels while competing for pure Yukon gold nuggets worth $10,000.
