The brand new BYD S6DM dual mode electric SUV made its European premiere at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show. It is the world’s first independent 4WD Dual Mode Electric SUV. Travelling over 60km (38 miles) purely on electric power (BEV) and over 495km (310 miles) combined range when engaging the environmentally friendly 2.0 litre gasoline engine, this SUV sports a 10kW electric motor paired with a smooth 6-speed dual-clutch transmission propelling the front wheels while a powerful 75kW electric motor powers the rear wheels.
The gasoline engine initially powers the front wheels and also drives the front electric motor to charge the battery pack. The vehicle could be driven also only in rear-wheel mode by the rear electric motor solely, when the driving power needed is low. When more power is needed, the gasoline engine and the rear electric motor drive the vehicle together.
