Renault is aiming to make India an exclusive manufacturing and export hub for its right-hand SUV Duster (including UK market too), and launch the model there by the middle of 2012. The French car manufacturer will be the first foreign carmakers to use India as an export base for SUVs, with its plans to export Duster to the UK under the Dacia badge by the end of 2012.
While India is the focus market for the five cars that will be launched between May 2011 and December 2012, vice president of communications & corporate affairs Ashish Sinharoy said the company is looking at any opportunities for exporting made-in-India cars within the Renault global network.
Duster is likely to cost 8-10 lakh and position itself as a competitor for Mahindra & Mahindra's Scorpio.
