The
National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) released a new report that examines
thefts of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and crossover utility vehicles (CUVs)
reported stolen between January 1, 2008, and June 30, 2012 in US.
The data was further filtered to produce
thefts for 2009, 2010, and 2011 model year vehicles only. Using those
parameters, there were 19,961 SUVs/CUVs reported stolen during the period. The top five makes and models stolen during
the period were: Ford Escape (1,014), Chevrolet Tahoe (856), Toyota RAV4
(801), Ford Edge (739), and the Dodge Journey (721).
