FIVE STARS FOR GM TRUCKS

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and High Country and the GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 are the first pickup trucks to receive the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed its New Car Assessment Program for the 2011 model year.

“Safety is as important to truck buyers as it is to car buyers,” said Gay Kent, GM general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “Silverado and Sierra set a benchmark for pickup truck safety by offering a full array of advanced features designed to protect occupants before, during and after a collision.”

GM RECALL

General Motors is recalling more than 36,000 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossover SUVs to fix tire pressure monitors that don't work right.
The company says the systems in the 2012 vehicles should warn drivers when tire pressure drops 25 percent below the recommended pressure. But in the recalled vehicles, the warning light doesn't come on until the tire pressure falls more than 25 percent.
Federal safety regulators say underinflated tires can overheat. That could lead to a blowout and a crash. But GM says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem. The recalled vehicles were built between July 28 and Sept. 6 of 2011. Dealers will update a computer that controls the monitors free of charge.
