ULTIMATE DEPLOYMENT VEHICLE


Fornasari presented at the Geneva Motor Show the Thor UDV, the ultimate deployment vehicle, developed in co-operataion with Austria-based ASTROBIONIX, a recognized leader in the development, exploitation, and transfer of technologies in order to enhance human safety and security on Earth and in space.
Project THOR refers to the development of high-performance, high-mobility all-wheel-drive vehicles which are suitable for deployment and utilization in extremely tough conditions, such as emergency and rescue activities during rally raid competitions, and for testing of equipment and solutions in very diverse operating conditions, from the heat of the Daytona race track to the bitter cold of the Arctic.
Based on the former Racing Buggy prototype, the all-wheel-drive THOR is equipped with a 600hp 7-litre V8 engine, paired with a 6-speed transmission with low gear, have an APX4 aeronautical-grade stainless steel tubular chassis, a 4-layer Kevlar coachwork, a top speed of approximately 280 km/h, a ground clearance of 35 cm, and a water fording capability of 90 cm, and they can be deployed from a C130 aircraft using LAPES (Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System).
