15 years ago, a new class of automobile debuted with the Audi allroad quattro: a car combining the comfort and dynamics of the luxury class with maximum variability and masterful off-road capability. Audi is now presenting the third iteration of the acclaimed Audi Prologue design concept with rugged allroad theme and hybrid drive at Auto Shanghai.

The 5.13 metre five-door show car with its raised body and tougher stance provides a new emphasis in the conceptual Audi prologue family and a clear glimpse into the brand's design future.

Six-millionth Audi with all-wheel drive

Jubilee at Audi: The six-millionth Audi with quattro drive rolls off the production line at the Ingolstadt plant on 11 July – only about one and a half years after the five-millionth quattro. Audi will deliver the jubilee car, an Audi SQ5 in monsoon gray metallic, to a family in the United States

Since the original quattro, the first Aud i with permanent al l-wheel d rive in the year 1980, this technology has conquered the roads of the world. With approximately 170 quattro versions – including the different  body shapes, engines and transmissions – the brand with the Four Rings offers the biggest selection of all-wheel drive vehicles amongst the premium manufacturers. The quattro technology is available across all model series. The models Audi Q7, Audi R8, Audi A4 allroad, Audi A6 allroad and all S and RS models are only available with quattro drive.

THE AUDI TT OFFROAD CONCEPT

The Audi TT offroad concept breaks the mold, combining the sportiness of a coupe with the lifestyle and utility of a compact SUV.


“The Audi TT offroad concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development. “It combines the sporty genes of the TT with the strengths of a compact Audi SUV. Its plug‑in hybrid drive with the option of inductive charging is a major step toward the mobility of the future. We chose to present the Audi TT offroad concept in China, our second domestic market, because it represents the urban mobility of tomorrow: It is sustainable, dynamic, intelligent and connected.”

DYNAMICS IN A NEW FORM

Audi is showing the nanuk quattro concept show car at the IAA in Frankfurt. Its crossover concept combines the dynamics of a high-performance sports car with Audi's quattro expertise on the road, on the race track and also off-road.

Audi developed the concept show car in collaboration with the designers from Italdesign Giugiaro. The result is a sports car for any stage of life and for any surface – equally at home on the race track, the highway or a winding country road as it is off-road in the sand or in the snow. It’s crossover concept combines the dynamics of a mid-engine sports car with the versatility of a sporty recreational vehicle.

THE SMALLEST Q

The new compact Audi SUV, the Q3 made its world debut at the 2011 Auto Shanghai motor show. The most diminutive member of the Audi Q-series has been designed to be very much in tune with the times. It will be as comfortable within the confines of the city as it will be scaling hills.

As a new departure for an Audi SUV, the predominantly quattro-equipped range will also include a front-wheel-drive model that will give absolute priority to efficiency. The optional Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system also features a fuel-saving efficiency mode, and when this option is specified the further developed Stronic twin clutch transmission can now disengage drive each time the throttle pedal is released to reduce draw on the engine.       

Three engines will initially be available, all combining direct fuel injection with turbo charging - the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol unit in 170hp and 211hp forms and the 2.0-litre TDI with 177hp. Soon after launch the 140hp 2.0-litre TDI will be offered in the entry level front-drive Q3. The 2.0 TDI 140hp and 2.0 TFSI 170hp engines will be linked to six-speed manual transmission as standard, while the 2.0 TDI 177hp and 2.0 TFSI 211hp units will feature the acclaimed seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission.

All versions will have the necessary grounding to make unruffled progress over a variety of terrains thanks to their raised 170mm ride height and robust multi-link front and rear suspension. This is bolstered by the sophisticated Electronic Stability Program with electronic differential lock, which effectively regulates torque distribution by braking individual wheels when they start to slip.

The city-friendly size of the distinctive Q3 body encapsulates a deceptively roomy interior with seating for five and an accommodating load bay with a 460-litre capacity, rising to 1,365 litres if the standard split/folding rear seat is stowed.

Numerous high-end options attest to the excellent technological standards of the Q3. They include adaptive light technology for the xenon plus headlights, a high-beam assistant to intelligently illuminate the road ahead, the hard drive-based navigation system plus with seven-inch colour screen and 3D mapping and the side assist blind spot warning and lane assist lane departure warning driver aids.
