MAZDA STARTS PRODUCTION AT NEW TRANSMISSION PLANT IN THAILAND

Mass production of the SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission has begun at the newly established transmission plant, Mazda Powertrain Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (MPMT), located in the Chonburi prefecture of Thailand.

The automatic transmission produced at the plant is one of Mazda’s new-generation SKYACTIV Technologies that provide both driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance at the same time. Annual production capacity at MPMT is around 400,000 units and in combination with Hofu Plant in Japan, the new plant will raise Mazda’s annual production capacity to approximately 1,540,000 units globally.

NEW COMPACT CROSSOVER FROM MAZDA

Mazda today revealed the all-new Mazda CX-3 to the world at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The new compact crossover SUV is the fifth model in Mazda's line-up of new-generation vehicles that feature the full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design. With global launches starting from Japan in the spring of 2015, the CX-3 is set to become a new core model in the automaker's line-up.

LOCAL PRODUCTION OF MAZDA CX-5 BEGAN IN MALAYSIA

Mass production of the Mazda CX-5 for Malaysia and Thailand started today at the Mazda-exclusive vehicle assembly facility of Inokom Corporation, located in Kulim, Kedah.

Mazda began local production of the Mazda3 (Mazda Axela in Japan) on a consignment basis with Inokom in January 2011. Since March 2013, the Mazda CX-5 has been produced at a Mazda-exclusive body shop constructed as one of the measures to reinforce the local production framework. This body shop, and the vehicle assembly facility which began operating today, are the result of an approximately 100 million ringgit (approx. 30,5 million USD) investment by Mazda Malaysia, a company that oversees the production and sales of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia. Total annual production capacity of both facilities is approximately 20,000 units.

SAYONARA NOx

Mazda will hold the Japan debut of the new CX-5 crossover SUV at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. This is the first step to progressively introduce clean diesel vehicles to the Japanese market, beginning with the new CX-5 in spring 2012. The vehicles will be powered by Mazda's next-generation 2.2-liter clean diesel engine. The breakthrough 'SKYACTIV-D 2.2' is the world's first passenger vehicle diesel engine to pass Japan's Post New Long-Term Emissions Regulations without the need for expensive nitrogen oxide (NOx) aftertreatment technology. The CX-5 will be the first passenger vehicle in Japan to combine a clean diesel engine with an idling i-stop system. It will deliver maximum torque of 420Nm, more than some 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine vehicles, and the best fuel economy of any SUV on the Japanese market.

Although popular in Europe, current clean diesel vehicles have struggled to gain traction in Japan because they require expensive NOx aftertreatment technology to meet the exhaust gas regulations. Through technological innovation, Mazda has achieved clean combustion of diesel fuel and avoided the need for NOx aftertreatment. Customers in Japan will be able to enjoy the price advantage of diesel over gasoline, approximately twice as much torque as similar sized gasoline engine vehicles, and 30 percent better fuel economy. With these eco-friendly and performance advantages, Mazda expects that its clean diesel vehicles will become a core part of its product lineup in Japan.

Mazda has also redeveloped its unique idling stop system, i-stop, for use with the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 engine. Unlike other diesel engine stop-start systems that require two engine cycles to restart combustion, i-stop restarts in a single cycle by careful positioning of the pistons as the engine stops. At less than 0.4 seconds, i-stop achieves the world's fastest diesel engine restart time. The result is a smooth restart that is barely noticeable, as well as a significant improvement in fuel economy.

MAZDA GIVES US FIVE

Mazda will hold the world premiere of the all-new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The CX-5 is the first of a new generation of Mazda‘s new design theme, 'KODO - Soul of Motion', which was previewed with the Mazda SHINARI and Mazda MINAGII concept cars. Unique themes of KODO design include a prominent new front view with a bolder family face and dynamic styling that conveys a strong sense of vitality and agility.

Developed around the full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY – including all-new Mazda gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, body and chassis – the CX-5 delivers precise response and a high-quality ride matched with outstanding environmental and safety performance.

The engine lineup for the European specification CX-5 will include Mazda's SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine available in Standard Power and High Power versions. Mazda focused on achieving exceptional environmental performance for a compact SUV and targeted CO₂ emissions of less than 120g/km for the 2.2 engine model.

MAZDA CX-5

Mazda announced that its new compact crossover SUV will be called the Mazda CX-5. It is the production model derived from the Mazda MINAGI concept car, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

The CX-5 will be the first production vehicle to incorporate Mazda's new design theme, 'KODO - Soul of Motion' as debuted on the Mazda SHINARI concept car, as well as the full range of breakthrough SKYACTIV technologies, including engines, transmissions, body and chassis.

The “CX” in CX-5 is Mazda’s official designation for its global line-up of crossover SUV vehicles, which also includes the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda CX-9. The CX-5 will be the compact model in the series.

In production form, the Mazda CX-5 will make its international debut at this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show to be held in Germany in September – before going on sale in 2012.

MAZDA HEADING TO THE SKY

Mazda will showcase the world premiere of its new MINAGI compact crossover SUV concept car during the 2011 Geneva motor show, which is being held from March 1-13.
