REMOTE CONTROL RANGE ROVER SPORT

Land Rover has revealed some of the prototype technologies that its UK-based research team are developing to deliver autonomous driving in the future.

A Remote Control Range Rover Sport research vehicle demonstrates how a driver could drive the vehicle from outside the car via their smartphone. The smartphone app includes control of steering, accelerator and brakes as well as changing from high and low range. This would allow the driver to walk alongside the car, at a maximum speed of 4 mph, to manoeuvre their car out of challenging situations safely, or even to negotiate difficult off-road terrain.

WORLD PREMIERE OF A RANGE ROVER BASED PICKUP IN SHANGHAI

The STARTECH Pickup based on the latest Range Rover celebrates its world premiere at the 2015 Auto Shanghai show. The Range Rover is converted into one of the world’s most exclusive pickups following the best coach building tradition that was once common for English luxury cars in particular.

The exclusive multi-purpose super car is powered by a five-liter eight-cylinder supercharged engine rated at 387 kW / 526 hp. It pushes the pickup from rest to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h.

LAND ROVER CONFIRMED EVOQUE CONVERTIBLE

Land Rover has confirmed Range Rover Evoque convertible, the world's first premium compact SUV Range will go on sale in 2016.

Forty metres below the streets of London, UK, the first prototype of Land Rover's new Range Rover Evoque Convertible was granted exclusive access to the 26-mile (42 km) network of Crossrail tunnels for a development test with a difference.

RANGE ROVER NUMBER ONE FOR AUCTION

The first ever Range Rover, chassis number #001, will be going under the hammer in The Salon Privé Sale, hosted in partnership with Silverstone Auctions, in London on September 4. This incredibly special car, estimated at between £100,000 and £140,000, was the first example of the iconic British SUV to roll of the production line back in 1969.

This car was built between 24 November and 17 December 1969 before being registered on 2 January 1970, nearly six months before the official launch date of the Range Rover. The first owner of the car was Michael Furlong, the producer of two promotional films for the model.

WORLD DEBUT FOR RANGE ROVER HYBRID LONG WHEELBASE

Land Rover unveiled the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase at the Beijing motor show. China is recognised by Land Rover as a potentially strong market for its new premium hybrids, whilst the long wheelbase design is identified as best suiting Chinese customers' preferences for luxury and spaciousness.

Global order books will open in May and first deliveries to customers in China are expected from the end of the year. Together with the Range Rover Sport Hybrid, it will be the first diesel hybrid model from any manufacturer to be offered in China. It offers an unprecedented combination of premium luxury, interior space, exceptional fuel and emissions performance and no compromise in Land Rover's renowned breadth of capability.

RANGE ROVER CONQUERRED THE DESERT

The new Range Rover Sport has set the fastest recorded time for a land vehicle crossing of the ‘Empty Quarter’ – one of the harshest and most challenging desert environments on the planet.

The Empty Quarter - or Rub' al Khali - is the largest sand desert in the world and the second largest desert after the Sahara. Intensely hot by day with temperatures exceeding 50°C, it is also dangerously arid. With no reliable water sources and an ever-shifting terrain, it provides a true test for man and machine.

RANGE ROVER SPORT ASPIRES FOR NEW RECORD

This coming week, Land Rover will attempt to set the fastest recorded time for a land vehicle crossing of the ‘Empty Quarter' - one of the harshest and most challenging desert environments on the planet, using a standard production new Range Rover Sport.

In the days running up to the challenge last minute checks are being made, with the challenge vehicle being prepped at the start line in Wadi Adda Wasir, Saudi Arabia. The route will run from there towards the finish line on the border of the United Arab Emirates, a distance of over 1000 km - further than the length of France.

WORLD'S FIRST HYBRID EXPEDITION

Three Range Rover Diesel Hybrid prototypes complete 10,472 miles along the Silk Trail by traversing 13 countries over 53 days from Solihull, UK, to Mumbai, India. It is the world's first ever hybrid expedition along the Silk Trail and one of the boldest driving adventures ever pursued by Land Rover.

Hostile conditions on the route included asphalt roads riddled with vast and deep potholes, dusty desert trails in 43°C heat and numerous miles of mud and gravel tracks and cattle trails. In addition, river crossings, passes clinging to the edges of mountains partly blocked by rock falls, the thin air of extremely high altitudes and the dense and erratic traffic of Chinese and Indian roads all added to the test of man and machine.

FIRST RANGE ROVER HYBRID MODELS

Land Rover is launching its first-ever hybrid models - the Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid. Order books will open from September 10 with first deliveries in early 2014.

The new Range Rover Hybrid powertrain features three driver-selectable modes and combines Land Rover's popular 3-litre SDV6 diesel engine with a 35 kW electric motor integrated with the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The hybrid system, including lithium-ion battery pack, inverter and electric motor weights less than 120 kg.
